The UV water sterilizer WATEX 2,700 L/h (S12) is designed for higher flows, up to 2.7 m³/h (2,700 L/h), and for installation in a pipe with a ¾” connection. It is suitable for water from your own sources as preventive protection, or anywhere the water contains bacteria and other microorganisms. Water treated in this way is suitable for drinking, cooking, and for food and healthcare use.

The sterilizer has a 55 W UV lamp and an INOX 304 (AISI 304) stainless steel housing. According to the manufacturer it deactivates up to 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, cysts, algae and other microorganisms, without adding chemicals. The process takes only 1 to 5 seconds, while chemical methods need at least 30 minutes. How does it work?

The water flows through a stainless steel tube containing a UV-C lamp in a protective quartz sleeve. Light with a wavelength of 253.7 nm damages the DNA of microorganisms, so they can no longer multiply. Sterilisation does not change the taste, colour or smell of the water.

For the light to reach all microorganisms, the water must be clear. The incoming water should have a turbidity below 0.1 NTU and total dissolved solids (TDS) up to 2,000 ppm. The manufacturer therefore recommends a 5 micron sediment pre-filter. A suitable option is the 5 micron sediment filter for the 20BB house filter in a Big Blue 20BB housing with pressure gauge.

When and which lamp to choose

Replace the lamp once a year or after about 9,000 hours of operation. When replacing it, also clean the quartz sleeve, because deposits reduce the effectiveness of sterilisation.

The sterilizer uses a 55-watt lamp with a length of 925 mm, a diameter of 15 mm and a 4-pin base.
