The UV water sterilizer WATEX 1100 L/h (UVS-18) is a compact and effective system for disinfecting drinking water in houses, weekend homes, apartments and smaller offices. It has a power of 25 W and a flow of up to 18 L/min (1.1 m³/h), so it also suffices for households with higher water consumption. It is installed directly into the water pipe with a ½” connection.

According to the manufacturer it destroys 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, algae and moulds, adds no chemicals and does not change the taste, colour or smell of the water. It is especially suitable for water from your own sources such as wells and springs, where the risk of microbiological contamination is higher. How does it work?

The water flows through a stainless steel tube containing a UV-C lamp in a protective quartz sleeve. Light with a wavelength of 253.7 nm damages the DNA of microorganisms, so they can no longer multiply. The minimum UV dose is more than 36 μW/cm². The process takes only a few seconds and needs no waiting or chemicals.

For the light to reach all microorganisms, the water must be clear. Install a mechanical filter before the sterilizer to remove larger particles and reduce turbidity. Suitable is the Big Blue 10BB sediment house filter or other house water filters. UV light does not remove chemical pollutants, iron or limescale, so you need suitable filters before it.

When and which lamp to choose

Replace the lamp once a year or after 9,000 hours of operation, because the UV output drops over time. When replacing it, also clean the quartz sleeve, since deposits reduce the effectiveness of sterilisation.

For the UV water sterilizer WATEX 1100 L/h you need the 25 W UV lamp for WATEX 1100 L/h (€79.90), designed for the WATEX UVS18 model. The lamp is 565 mm long and 18 mm in diameter.
