The UV water sterilizer WATEX 480 L/h (UVS-8) is a compact and effective system for disinfecting drinking water in smaller households, apartments, weekend homes and offices. It is sized for a flow of up to 8 L/min (0.5 m³/h) and is installed directly into the water pipe with a ½” connection. According to the manufacturer it removes 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, algae and moulds.

How does it work?

The water flows through a stainless steel tube containing a UV-C lamp in a protective quartz sleeve. Light with a wavelength of 253.7 nm damages the DNA of microorganisms, so they can no longer multiply. The minimum UV dose is more than 36 μW/cm². The process takes only a few seconds.

For UV light to reach all microorganisms, the water must be clear. The manufacturer therefore recommends triple pre-filtration: a 5 micron mechanical filter, a catalytic carbon filter (for chlorine, pesticides and heavy metals) and a 1 micron sediment filter. When and which lamp to choose

Replace the lamp once a year or after 9,000 hours of operation, because the UV output drops over time even though the lamp still lights. When replacing it, also clean the quartz sleeve, since limescale deposits reduce the effectiveness of sterilisation.
