The washable 5 micron sediment cartridge 20BB is a reusable pleated polyester cartridge (Aquafilter FCCEL), designed for Big Blue house filters of 4½″ × 20″. It traps sand, fine sand, rust and other particles and is therefore a good first stage for filtering cold water. Unlike ordinary cartridges, you can carefully rinse it and use it many times.

The pleated shape increases the filtration surface by up to 50% compared with other cartridges, so the cartridge holds more particles and clogs less often. According to the manufacturer, the synthetic material is resistant to bacteria and chemicals.

How does it work and how do you wash it?

Water passes through the polyester pleats from the outside in, and particles stay on the surface. When the cartridge clogs, you do not need to throw it away. Wash it under cold running water with a direct jet between the pleats, or let it dry and brush the deposits off the surface. According to our product page it can be reused up to three times.

For the finest filtration, install a 1 micron sediment filter for the 20BB house filter after it. The cartridge does not remove chlorine, dissolved substances or bacteria. Use it only with cold water.

Where to install it and what to combine it with

Install the washable 5 micron sediment cartridge 20BB as the first stage of a house filter on the main water supply. If you have water with a lot of sand or rust, the cartridge takes most of the particles and protects the more expensive cartridges after it. When to wash it and when to replace it

Replace the cartridge every 3 to 6 months, depending on water quality. You can wash it even before that, when you notice a drop in flow or pressure. After repeated washing, replace it with a new one. Shut off the water supply before replacing it.
