FCCBL20B-G carbon block (Aquafilter Gold, Big Blue 20″) removes up to 99% of free chlorine and improves water taste and odour. Replace every 3 to 12 months.

Premium Aquafilter Gold series for chlorine, taste and odour of drinking water in the Big Blue 20″ house filter
The FCCBL20B-G carbon block is a premium cartridge made of activated carbon from coconut shell, designed for Big Blue house filters of 20″ in length and 4½″ in diameter. According to the manufacturer it removes up to 99% of free chlorine and its derivatives and reduces lead, copper, mercury, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), phenol, benzene and chlorinated pesticides. It improves the taste and odour of water and helps reduce limescale.
Aquafilter makes the cartridge in the European Union. The manufacturer states compliance with NSF and FDA standards. The nominal rating is 5 microns, so the carbon block also retains fine particles.
How does it work and where to install it?
Water passes through the porous block from the outer surface towards the centre. Chlorine and organic substances bind to the carbon (adsorption), while particles are caught in the pores. That is why you should install a sediment cartridge in front of the block, which takes most of the particles and extends the life of the block.
The most common combination in a Big Blue housing is a 5 micron sediment cartridge, a carbon block and a fine 1 micron sediment cartridge. The cartridge is designed for cold drinking water, does not remove dissolved salts and is not intended for disinfecting water. According to the manufacturer, do not use it with microbiologically unsuitable water without disinfection.
Where to use it and what to combine it with
Choose the FCCBL20B-G carbon block for Big Blue 20″ house filters, for pre-filtration ahead of reverse osmosis and for house filters with a higher flow. Install a 5 micron sediment filter for the Big Blue 20BB in front of it, and a 1 micron sediment filter for the 20BB after it.
If you have heavy metals or iron, see the iron softening and removal cartridge 20BB, and for hard water the limescale removal cartridge 20BB. For a smaller 10″ housing there is the FCCBL10B-G carbon block. You will find the housing in the offer of Big Blue 20″ with a pressure gauge, and all cartridges in the category cartridges and spare parts for Big Blue 20″.
When to replace the cartridge
The manufacturer states a service life of 3 to 12 months, depending on water quality and consumption. When you notice a worse taste, a chlorine odour or a drop in flow, replace the cartridge. Shut off the water supply before replacing it. Flush the new cartridge until the water runs clear.
