FCCBL-S carbon cartridge (Aquafilter, 10″ × 2.5″) removes chlorine, organic substances and heavy metals and reduces water hardness. Replace every 6 to 12 months.

Aquafilter “Silver” carbon block for chlorine, metals and less limescale
The FCCBL-S carbon cartridge is a carbon block made from a mix of bituminous activated carbon and coconut shell activated carbon with added zeolite. Besides chlorine and organic substances, according to the manufacturer it retains heavy metals (lead, copper, mercury) and reduces water hardness, and with it the formation of limescale. It also improves taste and odour.
Aquafilter makes the cartridge in the European Union, and according to the manufacturer the carbon complies with NSF standards. The cartridge is designed for under-sink water filters of 10″ × 2.5″ that you use in your household for drinking water.
How does it work and where to install it?
Water passes through the block from the outer surface towards the centre. Chlorine and organic substances stay on the surface of the carbon, while heavy metals bind and, according to the manufacturer, are exchanged for harmless elements, which also softens the water. Particles are caught in the pores of the block, so install a sediment cartridge in front of it.
The usual combination is a sediment cartridge, a carbon cartridge and a fine sediment cartridge. The cartridge does not remove dissolved salts and is not intended for disinfecting water. According to the manufacturer, do not use water that is microbiologically unsuitable or of unknown quality without suitable disinfection before or after the system.
When to choose it and what to combine it with
Choose the FCCBL-S carbon cartridge if, besides chlorine in drinking water, you also want to reduce heavy metals and hardness. For protection against sand and rust, install a 5 micron sediment cartridge in front of it, and for fine filtration after it a 1 micron sediment cartridge.
If the basic carbon block is enough for you, see the FCCBL-G carbon cartridge. For reverse osmosis systems the PurePro CTO Carbon Block 5 micron is available. You will find other cartridges in the category individual cartridges for water filters.
When to replace the cartridge
The manufacturer states a service life of 6 to 12 months, depending on how contaminated the water is. At 2 ppm of free chlorine the estimated capacity is about 37,600 litres. When you notice a worse taste or odour or a drop in flow, replace the cartridge. Shut off the water supply before replacing it. Flush the new cartridge until the water runs clear.
If you are looking for an FCCBL-S carbon cartridge for chlorine, heavy metals and softer water, the Aquafilter 10″ × 2.5″ carbon block is a practical choice. Also see our other water filters and reverse osmosis water filters.
