Catalytic activated carbon 20BB (Ecosoft, Big Blue 20″) removes chloramines and hydrogen sulfide odour from borehole water. Capacity up to 30,000 litres.

Ecosoft cartridge with Centaur® catalytic carbon for borehole and private-source water in the Big Blue 20″ house filter
The catalytic activated carbon 20BB is an Ecosoft CRVS4520ECO cartridge filled with granular Centaur® catalytic activated carbon. It is designed for Big Blue 20″ housings (4½″ × 20″) and is especially suitable for water from boreholes and private sources. The catalytic carbon removes chloramines and substances that cause odour and taste, as well as hydrogen sulfide (the rotten-egg smell), organic substances, petrochemical compounds and pesticides. It improves the colour, taste and odour of water.
The cartridge is suitable for households and small commercial use. It has a built-in sediment post-filter that retains the carbon, so it does not release carbon particles into the water.
How does it work and how is it different from ordinary carbon?
According to the manufacturer, catalytic carbon has a greater adsorption capacity than ordinary activated carbon and speeds up the chemical reactions that break down chloramines and hydrogen sulfide. Water flows evenly through the carbon layer, so it gets the most contact with the surface, and the cartridge stays effective longer than an ordinary carbon cartridge.
Install a sediment filter in front of the cartridge so that particles do not clog the carbon. If the water contains iron or manganese, remove them before the carbon. The cartridge does not soften water and does not remove dissolved salts. Use it with cold water that is microbiologically suitable or disinfected.
Where to use it and what to combine it with
Choose the catalytic activated carbon 20BB if you have water from a borehole or private source with an unpleasant odour or taste. Install a 5 micron sediment filter for the Big Blue 20BB in front of it, and if you wish a 1 micron sediment filter for the 20BB after it.
If you are looking for an ordinary carbon cartridge for tap water, see the FCCBL20B-G carbon block. For iron and hardness there is the iron softening and removal cartridge 20BB. You will find the housing in the offer of Big Blue 20″ with a pressure gauge, and all cartridges in the category cartridges and spare parts for Big Blue 20″.
Operating conditions: the recommended flow is 5 L/min and the water temperature +3 to +43 °C. The cartridge is intended only for 20BB housings.
When to replace the cartridge
The manufacturer states a capacity of up to 30,000 litres. The actual service life depends on water quality and consumption. Replace the cartridge when the hydrogen sulfide or chlorine odour returns, the taste changes or the flow drops. Shut off the water supply before replacing it.
If you are looking for a catalytic activated carbon 20BB for borehole water with a hydrogen sulfide odour, the Ecosoft Centaur® cartridge for Big Blue 20″ is an effective choice. Also see our other water filters and reverse osmosis water filters.
